Why we should have four day work, school week
by Jackson W.
According to the World Health Organization, in 2016, more than 745,000 workers died worldwide from overworking. This statistic may cause many to wonder whether the benefits for employers of demanding a five-day week warrant the health consequences for employees. Barring the atypical workaholic who would work a seven-day week if he could, most people these days tend to be on board with the idea of working less. Indeed, a five day work and school week is exhausting to people's mental and physical mental states. For multiple reasons, a four day work/school week and three day weekend would be great for people's physical and mental well being.
A four day work week and three day weekend would give people more time to rest. According to Time Magazine, a shorter work week and longer weekend would give peoples brains longer time for rest. A three day weekend would give workers and students more time to rest from the work/school week and to prepare for the next week.
It would save workers and students a lot of money. It would save college, high school students, and workers a lot of gas money since they won’t be driving as much since they have an extra day to rest and stay home. According to The Skimm, salaried employees in a four day work week you likely mean you get more time off but earn the same amount of pay.
Third, a shorter work week would give people more time for hobbies and would create less stress for students. It will give students and workers more time to relax and catch up with their work if they need to. It’ll give people more time to spend with their friends and family. It will also create more opportunities for people to enjoy hobbies and exercise. It will also give teachers and bosses more time to plan for the week ahead.
Some may say that some jobs need five day weeks to get all the work done. Some jobs may need to have five day weeks and that may not change depending on the jobs. People who require five days a week to get stuff done can get out early on Fridays if they can. In a nutshell, a person's work week should be based on workload not days worked.
“I think a 4 day work week would give us more time to spend with friends and family and less stress during the work week, ”said Landon E., a tenth grader and personal friend.
“I feel it would be beneficial because it would make the average worker happier,” said Cooper L., another friend and tenth grader, “by allowing for more free time and time with their families.”
A four day work week would give students and workers more time to do things they want to and relieve stress. To prevent more workplace injuries and deaths from exhaustion, we need to heavily consider a four day work week.
