Rose B.
Rose is a freshman at Airport High School who lives with her mom, dad, and two sisters, the older of which is a copy desk editor at The Daily Gamecock. Rose is a long-time lover of all types of literature, from young adult fantasy novels to news articles discussing world events and scientific discoveries. She also is interested in graphic design and other visual arts, and she personally designed her middle school’s yearbook cover.

Rose has always made good grades in her English classes, was a member of the yearbook staff in middle school in the 8th grade, and is hoping to do some type of journalistic work in the future. She is excited to begin adding her own additions to the school newspaper and hopes to do well in her class. As a member of the freshman class Student Senate and National Art Honor Society, she hopes to write articles about school events and functions, but is also interested in writing book reviews and her opinions on world events.
Jasmine D.
Jasmine is a freshman at Airport High School. She previously took English I in eighth grade and is currently taking English 2. She has always had a passion for reading and writing, and despite her dreams of being in the medical field, she plans on writing in her free time. She read over 100 books in 2016, and is currently working on her third book of 2017. Jasmine took this class so she could increase her skills in writing. She loves reading about politics, and social justice issues. Since she was a little girl, Jasmine has wanted to be able to report about things she finds important, and share them with the world. She is very passionate about equality and feminism, and The Eyrie is a perfect way to use her voice about things that matter and to share them around the school with other people who have similar interests. She hopes to write about current events, environmental issues, and social justice events.
Kennedy Is a 14 year-old freshman attending Airport High School. She enjoys playing volleyball, volunteering with programs for students with special services, and hanging out with friends. A goal for Kennedy is to be a teacher for special education or an American Sign Language interpreter. She lives with her mother, father, brother, and two dogs.
Kennedy would like to attend either Clemson university or Columbia college. Clemson has a good American Sign Language program and she would like to bridge the gap of communication between someone who is hearing impaired and their way of communication with others. As for Columbia college they offer a multi-categorical degree in special education. Yes she is only 14, but is determined for success.
Kennedy doesn't have much background with creative writing, except for English I and II Honors so far, but she does enjoy it. Even though she doesn't have much experience, she is willing to learn new skills of writing. She is a great asset to The Eyrie newspaper team because she is dedicated and has high expectations for herself. She is proud to be an AHS student and is honored to be able to represent the ELITE Eagles in a positive way.

Marcus G.
Marcus G. is 15 years old and is a freshman at Airport High school. He enjoys sports, camping, eating, and sleeping. He spends most of his time eating and spending time with his family. He's also part of Airports swim and drill teams.
Marcus Gadsden has no experience in journalism and just wanted to try out the class to see if it was interesting. He's always willing to try new things and learn. He would like to write articles on sports and big events happening for the paper.
After high school, Marcus wants to go to a four-year college and become a pilot.
Jaylia H.
Jaylia is a 17 year old junior at Airport High School. She came to Airport halfway through her sophomore year. She enjoys watching Netflix, reading, and writing in her free time. Jaylia has no background skills in journalism involving news but she does enjoy creative and free writing. She does not want to pursue a career in journalism but she thought the class would help broaden her vocabulary and strengthen her writing skills. After high school, Jaylia plans on going to a four year university, preferably Clemson, and becoming an elementary school teacher.
Bre J.
Bre Jackson is 15 years old and is currently a freshman at Airport High School. She enjoys staying at home catching up on sleep, watching Law and Order on Netflix, and eating all kinds of food. Some of her dislikes are people who chew with their mouths open, or people who yell or talk to loudly. Bre loves to listen to music, and some of her favorite artists are J.Cole, Beyoncé, Rihanna , Alica Keys , Aaliyah, R.Kelly , and so much more. If you couldn't tell she really likes some old and new music. She currently volunteers at her local hospital, Baptist Hospital. She will become a Neonatal Nurse by the year 2028. She was born in South Carolina. She lives with her two sisters and Mom and Dad. Bre doesn't have any experience in any type of journalism, but is interested and excited to be apart of The Eyrie. She plans to write about current topics that are important, not only the world but to the students at Airport High. Bre would love to learn about how hard news reporting actually works, how reporters get the news to us the way they do, and how committed you have to be to do this kind of professional.
Katie K.
Katie is a freshman currently at Airport High School. Along with the school newspaper, Katie is also involved in Student Government. She enjoys to sing, act, and play softball in her free time. Katie has an interest for makeup as well. In the future, Katie plans to go to the University of North Carolina, in Chapel Hill, to study science in preparation for a career as a medical examiner. So far, she has taken English I & II Honors. Although Katie has no background in journalism, she is always up to try something new and learn new skills. She does not think she will be doing journalism in the future but is excited to see what the semester holds for her. She decided to take journalism because she has always liked discussing current events with her peers. Katie would like to better herself as a writer throughout the semester and hopes to learn some skills she can continue to use throughout high school. Katie hopes the content she will learn has long lasting effects. She would like to have her input on important topics and what is happening today. She hopes she can add some quality content to The Eyrie.
Karson M.
Karson is a 14 year old and currently is a freshman at Airport High School. He is on the Airport High School wrestling team. He enjoys the hobbies of going fishing and doing all other outdoor activities staying in the nature. Even though he is a freshman, he is very ready to be out of high school and attend college to fulfill his dream job of being a mental health psychiatrist.
Karson has no really background in writing newspapers and has never really preferred writing as a career option, but he has hopes that this class can change that and get him to enjoy the aspects of writing. For the newspaper, Karson hopes to be writing about political events going on right now and also do sports stories because that's what interests him most. Karson signed up for this class hoping that he would get more involved with writing in it due to the fact that his dream job will have a lot of writing involved with it.
Sydney M.
Sydney Miller is a 15 year old freshman at Airport High School. She is a hardworking student and very kind to everyone she meets. Outside of school, she spends most of her time at The Karate Dojo, where she is a blue belt. Some of her hobbies are drawing and watching YouTube videos.
When her mom went to Airport High School, she was the Co-Entertainment Editor of The Eyrie. Although Sydney Miller does not have any experience in Journalism, she hopes to learn new things and improve on some skills such as writing, reading, and grammar. In Middle School, she was on her school’s yearbook staff but worked mostly on the layout and design of the yearbook. She was on the yearbook staff in 7th and 8th Grade and she enjoyed learning new things throughout the two years.
Sydney’s favorite subjects in school are English, History, and Science. She loves school and she always strives to get A’s and B’s and to be the best in her class. This semester she hopes that she will come to love journalism as much as she likes English, History, and Science. This semester she is also looking forward to writing about school events and many other different things in The Eyrie.
Emily O.
Emily is a current 14-year old freshman at Airport High School. She started taking English Honor classes in 8th grade and has since then taken English I-II. She hopes to finish her high school classes early so that she can take some college credit classes and have an advantage when entering college. Even though she does not have a specific career set in her mind, she does know she wants to go into the medical field as either a pediatrician or pharmacist. She wants to go into the medical field because she wants to assist others with their medical needs or health problems. She has 3 younger brothers. During her spare time, she loves to spend time with her family and watch horror movies on Netflix. Her grammar and vocabulary aren’t the best, but she is willing to work on it and improve. She signed up for journalism because she wanted to learn better writing techniques and contribute in the making of The Eyrie. She is very excited and hopes to help the student body of Airport High School feel more connected to their school by bringing up important topics that she feels like should be discussed in The Eyrie.
Scott P.
Scott is 14 years old but currently an Airport High School freshman. He is a wrestler here currently. He has never done anything with journalism but is hoping to learn this year. He doesn't know what he's really doing in this class yet. His interest in this class are to learn something about newspapers and magazines. He took this class to see how it would work out but it seems to be alright. The articles he's going to be writing are about sports and events that occur in the school.
Scott's plans after high school are to wait a little while and get a job to save up for college. He wants to be a game warden or professional athlete and then grow up to have a family one day.
Pazzion R.
Pazzion is currently a freshman at Airport High School. So far, she has made all A’s and she's never missed a day of school in her life. This is her second year playing softball for the school. She served on the yearbook committee in middle school and has been an honor student since elementary school. She served in the NJHS in the 7th and 8th grade and was on the Academic Challenge team as well. She enjoys reading Nicholas Sparks, watching movies, and listening to music. Her favorite poet is Edgar Allan Poe and her favorite author is Nicholas Sparks. She hopes to graduate early, attend USC or college of Charleston,, and pursue her dream of teaching kindergarten and special education.
Nathan S.
Nathan is a senior at Airport. His life pretty much revolves around wood. He has taken all 4 levels of carpentry at BC, works at a wood shop called Southern Commercial Interiors, and woodworking is one of his biggest hobbies. Besides woodworking, he enjoys hunting, fishing, going to church, and watching movies. After high school, Nathan plans to attend Central Carolina Technical College in Sumter for their forestry management program then go to The Charleston School of Woodworking. For a career, his goal is to be a park ranger at a state park and run his own small wood shop. Nathan started his high school classes early by taking English I in eighth grade and he finished early by completing all required English classes his junior year. He believes that this prepared him with the reading and writing skills needed for journalism. He also wanted to take his senior year easy and enjoy it, so he did not want to take an AP class. He hopes to write about the other CATE classes at Airport and BC that students are involved in like welding and cosmetology. He would also like to write movie reviews, news on movies, and his time outdoors. In the class, Nathan would like to learn how to give people information that is unbiased and interesting.
Janiah S.
Janiah is a freshman at Airport High School. She is fifteen years old and lives with her mom, step dad, two sisters, and her aunt. Janiah’s hobbies are doing hair, nails, and writing. When Janiah gets older she wishes to be a child therapist, family and marriage counselor, or a cosmetologist. Janiah does not currently participate in any extracurricular activities but wants to attend the cosmetology class when she becomes a junior. Janiah has won the Myrdis Walker award in 8th grade. She has been in several honors courss for the last three years of her life. She has not had any experience in journalism but has written short stories, poems, and diaries as a child. She began writing stories at the age of five. She started her life writing short stories for her teacher and classmates. She hopes to write stories so she can get money for a scholarship. Janiah wants to write interesting articles that inform people and make people laugh. She will focus on the importance of our school's environment and the juicy things that students should know. Janiah is hoping that taking this class will help her determine what career field she wants to go into. Janiah is looking forward to a great semester.
Nia S.
Nia is a freshman at Airport High School. She loves to play basketball and spends her free time talking to friends. She plays for the school in basketball and outside for AAU. She doesn't really go out but when she does she heads to the mall. She loves food from everywhere, and her favorite fast food is fries.
Nia has zero knowledge in Journalism but has thought of working for a fashion magazine. She hopes to take a lot away from this semester. Nia has been in honors classes since the 7th grade. She maintains at least a 3.7 GPA every year and hopes to improve in her education. She hopes to have an amazing year.
Rachel S.
Rachel is currently 14 years-old and a freshman attending Airport High School. When she is not at school she is either at dance or with friends. Her hobbies include shopping, watching movies, and dancing (ballet being her favorite style of dance). For the most part she enjoys school, and English is her favorite subject.
Rachel is an honor student and has been placed in advanced classes since 3rd grade. She is taking English II currently and joined journalism to to become more involved in the school. She enjoys free writing and writing in general and is looking forward to writing for The Eyrie.
Jasmine T.
Jasmine was born April 19, 2002 and is a freshman at Airport High School. She enjoys reading, writing, drawing, or anything that allows her to express her creativity. She took English I Honors in 8th grade and takes English 2 Honors this semester. Her goals in life are to graduate college with a high rank in her class and to become an engineer or an artist, possibly even both. She's off to a great start with great grades, a 4.6 GPA, and taking honor academic classes.
Jasmine hasn't been involved in journalism before, but she thought it'd be very interesting to write for a newspaper and see what reporters and journalists actually go through when writing an article. Since she is interested in art and expressing oneself, she hopes to write about the productive and artistic side of Airport. She believes that “art” shouldn't be limited to just paper and paint, so she considers writing as a form of art because it allows you to express yourself.
Destiny T.
Destiny is a senior at Airport High School and isn't really involved in any extracurricular activities but has been apart of the honors chorus and enjoys singing. Journalism is the only English class that she has taken this year. In her free time she enjoys shopping & going out with the few friends she has. When she graduates she plans to go to college and major in business.
Aleah T.
Aleah is a freshman at Airport High School. She is 14 years old turning 15 years old January 26. Aleah lives on a farm with her mom, dad, two sisters, and two brothers. She has one more older sister who does not live with her but who introduced her to journalism. Aleah doesn't really have that much of a background with journalism, but she hopes to learn more throughout this semester. She usually does track and is waiting for the season to come. Aleah hopes to keep getting good grades overall. She hopes to graduate from Airport with a scholarship of some sort. She hasn't really decided on what college she plans to go to, but knows a pediatrician is her dream job. Her grandfather was a big part of her life and believed she could do anything. She knows to achieve this she has to work hard and put her all into school, and she knows this newspaper is one way to get started.
Jose V.
Jose is currently a 15 year old freshman at Airport High School. Jose has not had much experience in Journalism except for his English classes. There he learned to write essays and other writing assignments. Taking Journalism will really help him in his writing skills. Jose plays on the soccer team at his school. His number one goal is to become a professional soccer player. He also has a plan B, which is to become an Architect or Civil Engineer. Jose is taking an engineer class which will help him in his plan B career. Jose hopes to bring interesting things to the school newspaper.
Kaitlyn Z.
Kaitlyn is a 14 year-old freshman. She has one sister, one brother, and one very energetic dog. She enjoys reading science fiction and fantasy novels. Writing is her primary source of free time. Kaitlyn has future plans to be an author as well as a history teacher. She will be writing current news stories and controversial topics for The Eyrie. Kaitlyn is very excited to be in the Journalism class; she signed up to improve her writing skills and further her understanding of world and local events. She has no prior knowledge about journalism history, but is ready for a semester of learning!
