Ten places for teens to daydream about visiting
Have you ever wanted to travel around the world or even thought about it? Most people do. Imagine going to another country but feeling like you’re in a whole new world. This has been done before. Obviously by people who just travel their whole life but a famous voyage around the world was by Nelly Bly. She traveled around the world in 72 days.
I went around and asked a couple of Airport students what was the one place they wanted to go out of curiosity. Bianca G. said, “I’d want to go to Greece.” When asked why, she answered, “To learn about their culture and take in the beauty of the architecture.” Another student, Karina P., said, “I want to go to the UK to see the buildings and maybe even catch a glimpse of the queen.” Don’t we all just love queen Elizabeth.
Onto the list. Here, in one teen's opinion, are ten places to visit if you plan to go around the world.
1.
The Bahamas
Everyone has thought at least once in their life to visit this place. They have the infamous Pink Sand Beach, maybe you want to snag a little bottle of the sand. You could also explore their Lucayan National Park. You can even swim with pigs! As for the food, their national dish is Conch (explanation of food) or there are other things such as souse and baked crab.
2.
Veracruz, Mexico
Many people go to Mexico but not a lot go to Veracruz. There's a gorgeous city called Xalapa, it's often called “The Flower Garden of Mexico”. You could also visit Coatepec ``Coffee capital of Mexico”, even if you’re not a coffee lover you can still take in the beautiful scenery. On top of the scenery there is a wide range of food to try from Arroz a la Tumbada to Ostiones a la Diabla, two popular dishes.
3.
Reykjavik, Iceland
When people think of Iceland all there is to think about is the cold, it is called Iceland after all. Though there's lots to do and see. The obvious thing to tell you is to go see the Northern Lights, a basic suggestion maybe but they are just too beautiful. There's also the Perlan museum, just the way it looks on the outside just makes you anxious to see inside.
4.
London, United Kingdom
The UK has a lot of attractions, mostly historical buildings but who wouldn’t want to see a piece of history. Among other things there’s Hyde Park, famous for its speaker’s corner. If you love to shop then Camden, a district northwest of London is the place for you. Famed for its market and warren of fashions.
5.
Dublin, Ireland
If you’re a fan of St. Patrick's day then you’d definitely want to check out St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The church resembles a castle which makes sense because it was built in 1191 but the inside is stunning. A nice souvenir from Dublin would be a sweater or blanket considering they have the best wool and mohair products. Stop by the shop in Avoca to get some original handwoven luxurious scarves, sweaters or blankets made out of local Irish mohair.
6.
Paris, France
When in Paris, the city of love, you should obviously stop to see the famous Eiffel Tower, another tourist cliche but really who doesn't want to see the tower. In Île de la Cité there is lots to do like go to the Louvre Museum, a landmark art museum, and take a tour through the Cathedrale Notre Dame de Paris, said to be an ‘iconic Gothic church’. Paris has a wide variety of food from onion soup to steak tartare, though if you want to keep it simple you could always stick with the Macarons.
7.
Rome, Italy
Next on the list is Rome, a good place for ancient history lovers. The Colosseum is in the center of Rome and is the largest ancient amphitheater ever built and the largest still standing in the world. It was built in 70 AD, it's old! St. Peter’s Basilica, again my history connoisseurs, it's a church located in the Vatican City built in the Renaissance style. All the walking and tours will certainly make you hungry. You should stop by a restaurant and try some artichokes or maybe gelato, porchetta if you’re feeling adventurous.
8.
Santorini, Greece
Greece is a sort of minimalistic type of place to go to, sure there’s a lot of ancient ruins but the sight alone just makes you say “Oh wow!”. You can take a tour of the Volcano and hot springs, hike up the famed volcano and get a view of the volcanic landscapes. If you’re a boat lover then you should take a boat tour and sail around the island. The food in Santorini looks delicious, their famous dish Fava is yellow split-pea purée. Another popular dish is Saganaki, fried cheese covered with filo pastry and drizzled with honey, but there’s still so much more to choose from.
9.
Tokyo, Japan
Japan just had to be on this list, specifically Tokyo. There's just so much fun to be had here. A big attraction is the real life Mario Kart tour. You can race in the streets of Tokyo in a go kart and even dress up as one of the characters from the game. Another place to go would be Disneyland Tokyo. Its 115 acres and the first Disney park to be built outside of the US, it's said to be worth crossing the pacific for. Their Onigiri, sounds like it's worth trying, especially if you like sushi, its rice usually formed into a triangular shape, often contains some kind of filling, and is usually wrapped with roasted seaweed.
10.
Matamata, New Zealand
New Zealand is a magical place, some places give off the perfect cottage core vibes. Places like Wairere Falls, on top of the beautiful waterfall the walking tract leading to it has other sights. If you loved Lord of the Rings then you’ll absolutely want to take a tour of the Hobbiton set. The place is quite literally straight out of a movie, it's magical! Even their food looks magical. Pavlova, for example, is a famous dessert, it is crisp on the edges, chewy on top, and marshmallow soft and creamy in the centers; topped with lemon curd, whipped cream, and fresh fruit.
That concludes the list of ten places to visit in 72 days. These places are literally only a fraction of the world; there's so much more to be explored.
