Students plan, participate in HoCo events; minor controversy ensues

With homecoming so close, students were excited and ready to see what Airport had planned for

HOCO 2021. Once the festivities culminated in the game last Friday, some controversy on Homecoming winners occurred.

The week of September 27 to October 1 was homecoming week. Student government had been putting a lot of effort into planning this year's homecoming and making it the best yet! The theme for homecoming was, according to Davis N., the student body president, "Through the Decades.” When Davis was interviewed he told us all that was to come.

This year our homecoming theme days are 80’s,90’s,00’s, Drip check, and USA. Davis explained that there will not be a homecoming dance this year. Although he is happy with how homecoming is now he wishes he could change the fact that students don’t come to homecoming dances. Other than that the quality of homecoming is exactly as he wanted it to be. He said that the “quality is pretty high” as far as homecoming is concerned.

Some students participated in spirit week. 9 out of 20 surveyed students participated in the spirit week dress up days, suggesting that about half of the student population showed their school spirit at some point this week. Other students that did not participate either didn't feel like it or didn't care about homecoming spirit days although the students that did participate really put an effort into going by and coordinating with the spirit days.

The week leading up to the homecoming game against Midland Valley was full of students going head to head to be crowned as homecoming king or queen. Students gave out candy, cupcakes, donuts and putting up posters. There was a little friendly student rivalry with Jada P. and Kendall S. . Both of the students had other students on their side. In the cafeteria Thursday, the two students and their groups/supporters stood against each other. The students were kidding because the two candidates are in fact teammates. Administration didn't know that. So they stood in the middle to avoid anything from happening even though nothing was going to happen.

On Friday October 1, at 7:00 PM the Airport VS. The Midland Valley game started. At half time they announced the homecoming queen and king. The homecoming 2021 king was Jeremiah S. and the homecoming queen was Kendall S. At the end of the game Airport won. The score was 30-29.
