Students complain about schools parking lot/roads
by Denise O.-F.
Recently, a student in my journalism class complained about the school's parking lot after running over multiple pot holes every day since the start of the school year. This one personal story then led to asking other students how their drive and parking experience coming to school is. Most have said that they personally don't like the parking lot because there are multiple dislikes they have about it.
The news is important because it affects almost all students. Everyone arrives to school by a vehicle of some sort--be that car, bus, bicycle, motorcycle, etc.--which must use the busted-up roads.
The bad conditions include a bumpy and uneven road, multiple potholes they have run over, and improper road. This gives the school a bad look when it should give more sleek looks so that the school can have a higher reputation.
The potholes students complain the most about are located where students get dropped off from the buses by the auditorium, which is also where students park. The faculty lot is alleged to be better than the student lot.
Another thing some students at AHS complain about is the parking lot and parking spaces. Most get annoyed because of how crowded it can get at times and others say how when parents get confused about picking up a student they block their way of getting out and there's no room to go anywhere else in addition to them having to wait for the parent to move.
The ugly and uneven surfaces the roads students at AHS take to get there are so provoking that it pretty much affects everyone in some type of way. The road that gets the most complaints is Greenwood Dr which is a road the school shares with a middle school right beside them, and parts of Eagle Dr.
When asked what he thought was the worst part of the lot, “Mainly the road behind the school where the sports area is at,” Max P. said.
Mr. Pumphrey, assistant principal at AHS, responded to me asking him if he thinks our school's parking lot is bad and if it needs any changes, “I don't think there's anything wrong with our parking lot. Everything seems great to me.”
“They need to fix the improper surfaces their roads have and small parking lots,” said Madisson V., a classmate of mine at AHS.
There have been multiple reports about other school’s parking lots and roads, and most have caused accidents due to that. In May, Fluvanna County High School had a number of parking lot accidents due to how bad and small their parking lot was.
You can find many articles from students around the world complaining about their school's road and parking lot, like La Falcon a school in Milwaukie, Oregon article’s page talking about the same complaints AHS students gave about the schools parking lot and road. Also It gives multiple schools a bad look and sometimes a bad reputation therefore getting the roads and parking lots fixed would give schools less judgment, and also give a safe and welcoming environment for learning everyday.
