South Carolina State Fair is here

The South Carolina state fair is back for everyone to visit on October 11-22, 2023 in Columbia, South Carolina.

On Wednesday October 11, 2023 the annual state fair opened up for anyone to visit. The fair will be open to people until October 22. The fair is located on Rosewood Dr, Columbia Sc.

Every year, the South Carolina state fair opens up in October. In 2019, the state fair did not open up due to the new outbreak of covid-19. In 2021, covid-19 was still in effect so when the fair came around, people could only get food from the food trucks and they had to stay in their cars. This year people are allowed to enjoy the rides and food with other people.

This year makes it the 154th anniversary. During the state fair, USC are also having their homecoming weekend. These two events happening at the same time cause a lot of traffic.

Tickets to get in the gate cost fifteen dollars but this does not include ride or food. To get a ride voucher it costs thirty-eight dollars. Food and games are cost separately.

There are tons of food trucks at the fair. These include Billy G’s Carolina BBQ, DeAnna’s Donut Dog, Jamil Shrinners and more. Jamil Shrinners have been at the state fair for over fifty years and are known for their low cost and good food. Famous desserts to have are fried Oreos, funnel cakes, caramel apples, cotton candy, mini donuts and many more.

There are many attractions including live music, rides, circus shows and more. Some rides they have are the Double Decker Carousel, Flying Dumbo, and The Zipper Return. This year they have for the first time a Princess Diana Exhibition.

Adrien started talking about the circus show he witnessed towards the end of the night, “I thought the man was about to die…. The dude was riding the bicycle upside down... It scared me.”

School districts are giving time off to allow students to have more opportunities to go to the fair. The fair is a place where people can have fun with their friends and family.
