Senior track athletes prepare for the upcoming season
by Sydney E.
Airport High School senior track athletes are currently preparing for their upcoming season, which starts in the Spring of 2024.
These seniors are taking advantage of every opportunity this season has to offer by conditioning and having high hopes.
Cross country has contributed to conditioning some track athletes, with speed endurance. They’ve practiced with workouts more speed-based, rather than form– which is focused on more in track training.
“Running miles and miles over again can help build that energy endurance,” says Anthony M., a senior track athlete.
Given that these athletes are seniors, they are feeling confident that this season will be great and that it will help them prepare for college.
“I definitely feel like this is the time to make an impact and break some records,” Jalen J. says, a senior track athlete. “Last year, I was top fifty in state, so I feel like I’m not too far behind compared to that collegiate level and I’m prepared to run for it and get through this season,” says Anthony M.
Some believe that the fastest runners have already graduated. However, even though this sport is a team effort, it’s focused a lot on singular events, so athletes have more opportunity to focus on themselves.
