Satoru Gojo | 1989 - 2023

by Laila E.

On Sunday, October 1, Satoru Gojo suffered a quick, but gruesome, death at the hands of Ryomen Sukuna. The world was robbed of a man who was playful with his students and fellow sorcerers in order to connect with them while also having the ability to maintain his powerful abilities to keep the ones he cared most about safe. Gojo showed great devotion towards protecting the citizens of Tokyo, Japan, but sadly, that same devotion cost him his life. Gojo was a powerful and enigmatic figure in the lives of many. This was shown through his lengthy career of working as a teacher at Tokyo Metropolitan Jujutsu Technical High School and being a member of the Jujutsu Sorcerers.

Gojo was a vastly talented sorcerer has he possessed many abilities, but his greatest ability was “Limitless”, a technique that allowed him to manipulate space and stop any attack directed at him. He was the complete opposite of one of his popular sayings, “Yowai Mo” which translates into “You’re weak.”

Gojo’s charismatic personality, strong sense of justice, and his smile that could light up any room is kept alive by his adoring fans that have a strong desire to remember him at the times where he was healthy and thriving the most. Although not much is know about his family, many of Gojo’s friends such as Yuji Itadori and Megumi Fushiguro miss him dearly and will forever preserve his legacy. Fellow sorcerers Suguru Geto and Kento Nanami predeceased him.

“Ever since Gojo died, I have not slept in weeks. I am starting to see sounds and hear colors”, is what one AHS student, who wishes to remain anonymous, feels in regards to the passing of Gojo. It is evident that he had such a powerful impact on this student, in addition to many others.

Gojo’s influence was so great that many people that knew him were subjected to intense feelings of grief after his passing. This is made clear as Jayden T., another AHS student, stated that, “tears have formed in my eyes every second I think about his death.”

Gojo’s brief but accomplished life was celebrated with a memorial in Tokyo, Japan, his hometown. The funeral was a private gathering as there was significant damage dealt to his body which was beyond repair. Flowers are welcome to be brought to his memorial. Sympathy cards and any pictures of Gojo looking his finest are also accepted in place of flowers.
