Revisiting and reviewing Drake’s ‘Certified Lover Boy’
By Zayvion W.
Last spring, Drake and Kendrick Lamar had a rap beef and a lot of people said Kendrick Lamar won but I feel like Drake's song was very underrated and he is still a very good artist in my opinion. Let’s take some time to visit and review one of his best albums ever, 2021’s Certified Lover Boy.
A little bit of background about Drake: Aubrey Drake Graham , born on October 24, 1986 is a Canadian rapper , singer and actor. An influential figure in popular music , he is known for popularizing R&B sensibilities in hip hop music. Drake has been in the hip hop scene since 2006, after retiring from acting, with a release of his debut mixtape, Room For Improvement. Almost twenty years on, he remains at the top of the game. Drake started out his journey to stardom on the television screen at just 15 years old , starring in the Canadian teen soap Degrassi. he played the role of Jimmy Brooks , a basketball extraordinaire who became wheelchair-bound. Drake appeared in a total of 100 episodes between 2001 and 2008. He has been popping ever since.
Circling back to Certified Lover Boy, this album dropped in 2021, and in general I feel like it was a solid album. It had its ups and downs but is overall very good. Three specific things I love about the album is how Drake was versatile , the way all songs sound different and he changes the flow, and how he features Travis Scott, Lil Baby, and a couple more very great artists.
To elaborate, first and foremost Drake’s album is versatile with him doing singing, rapping and easily going from one bar to another.
Secondly, the album has a lot of variety, each song sounds different, and Drake changed up his flow, unlike other artists who sound the exact same on every track like for intestine “In The Bible” featuring Lil Durk, Drake starts off singing then changes the beat and starts rapping.
The third reason I love the album is because of the features of Travis Scott, Lil Baby, Lil Durk, Future, Young Thug, 21 Savage and more. I love all their music and the way these rappers put it all in their songs.
I went to Gavin B. at Airport High School to see what he thinks about this and he says that he doesn't like the album because he feels Drake's allegations are real and he does not want to support him anymore.
Dewand P. thinks that the album is trash because of Drake singing.
Seems like it's just me who is the fan.
Where you can go to buy/listen to this album is Spotify or YouTube, and some rappers you can listen to if you also like Drake are 21 Savage, a close friend to Drake and Young Thug.
