Review of TV show ‘Fallout’

By Kameron B.

Since its debut last spring, many students may have likely seen the full season, clips, or ads for the show, Fallout. Having seen the full series myself, I wanted to give a rundown of the pros with the hopes of encouraging my peers who have not seen it to give it a shot.

Based on a video game of the same name, the television show Fallout takes place in a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles, decimated from nuclear bombs that nearly ended the world, and people have to stay in vault shelters to stay safe from the radiation and explosions.

Overall, the show was outstanding. In brief, the show was really accurate to the game and it was a great adaptation. Fallout won the Emmy award for Outstanding Emerging Media Program and Outstanding Music Supervision. It was definitely deserved.

To be more specific about some of the show’s pros, the special effects were first and foremost amazing. For instance, the explosion effects had a lot of detail because it was big and it felt and looked real. They also made the monsters look real and fantastic. They took the monsters from the games and put them in the movie to look real, instead of adding new monsters and things, which was genius.

The characters were great with talented voice actors who played in other good movies/shows. For example, Ella Purnell who played the main character, Lucy, had previously starred in the very successful show, Arcane and Walton Goggins who has played the character, The Ghoul, previously played in a successful movie, Django Unchained. What made Purnell’s acting so great was because she had huge eyes and she was cheerful and kind. Goggins stood out because of his country accent and the make up he had to put on to be the ghoul. The makeup looked real enough

The setting is also amazing. The explosion making the world into a post-apocalyptic wasteland is such a great detail. The wasteland features an almost empty sandy place with destroyed buildings and items. The wasteland also has water but it's radioactive due to the explosions from the nukes. There are small villages around the wasteland but are kind of far.

Critics tended to praise the show also.  Lyra Hale gave it an A on RottenTomatoes.com and said, “It became very clear from the first scene of Fallout, that this show was going to be heartfelt but utterly terrifying.”

Another critic, Nelson Acosta, gave it a 4/5 and wrote, “Fallout might be the best adaptation of a video game to the screen so far; it is undoubtedly a lot better than The Last of Us on HBO because at least Fallout understands the core ideas of its world and brings it to life.”

An Airport student, Julian B., said, ¨The movie was fantastic and the details were great¨

Another Airport student Boston S. said, ¨I really love the movie and I thought it was good.

Both students really enjoyed the show and loved every minute of it.

In conclusion, overall, I would give it a 10/10 stars. The movie is so great and it’s worth paying $14.99 to watch on Amazon Prime. According to Google, Season 2 is supposed to come out in early 2026, so it’s not really too late to watch Season 1. I highly recommend it.
