Review of 'Animal Farm,' book recently read in Ms. Atkins' class

by Anthony G.

For a couple days/ going on a week or two, in Mrs. Atkins' class we’ve recently started reading a book called Animal Farm. This book revolves around animals that decide to rebel against their human farmer and to take a stand against him to defend other animals around them.

I personally find the book Animal Farm to be a very good book. I say this because there are some things I find funny in the book but also interesting.

First of all, I find it interesting how the animals decide to make a rebellion to have their own freedom from the farmer. They also did this to not only help themselves, but help all other animals to be part of society as well.

Secondly, what I also find interesting but also cool is how the animals not only talk to each other, but they also talk to humans. For example saying “Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy.” I find it strange but also very interesting how they can talk to humans normally rather than just the other animals around them.

Finally, in a quote from the book, the animals chanted, “Four legs good, two legs better.” This quote from the book alone refers back to the pigs and how they used to think it was bad to walk on two legs but now they think it is good because their newfound power has corrupted them. They had their own control over the more inferior animals that were around them, and this control made them power-obsessed. This is an important theme in the book and also in real life.

Regarding on what other students have to say about the book, one of my classmates said, “What I like about animal farm is how the animals finally stood up for themselves against their farmer that didn’t treat them correctly, but it’s also bad that the pigs were manipulative and selfish against the other farm animals and lied to them to get them to do their work and to also take their food.”

Another classmate stated, “What I like about it well is how they make it seem like a normal story about animals and a farmer, when really it was about the animals getting tired of being used for resources, that they boycott the farmer and start a war with him.”

Overall, I do give this book an 8 out of 10 stars.

My final recommendation is to read the book to see if you’ll like it. You can read this book by finding it around a library, or research.
