Recent incident in 400-hall restroom regarding leak causes closure, traffic redirection
by Anthony G.
On August 21, some girls and boys were headed to the bathroom. The school bathroom in 400-hall had a leak due to the pipes being broken. This particular event caused all students to stop and go through the 500 hall to get to their classes in the morning.
Students need to become more aware of things that go on in the bathrooms, broken walls, messed up floors etc.
Many people/students claim the situation was funny in some way but also stupid. Funny in a sense that it was unexpected, but stupid in a way because of how students had to all go through hall 500 to get to class. Excess Water Pressure causes leaks.
From research, 10% of homes have leaks that can waste up to 90 gallons or more per day, but one leaking toilet can account for 3 to 5 gallons of water lost within each MINUTE. Plus water damage claims are more than 50% of all commercial real estate insurance claims. Hopefully, the facilities workers in the district were quick to respond.
There are other things besides cracks being the cause, plumbing lines could be off and mess with the pipes. That could also mess with everything that's going on around the toilet pipes. Plumbing lines are there for toilet sewage, storm water drainage, and drinking water.
Plumbing issues are an ongoing concern at AHS. Restrooms are regularly closed, toilets take multiple flushes to properly dispose of waste, and some water fountains, such as those in the cafeteria, are non-functional.
Please report any issues you encounter to Mr. Pumphrey, the assistant principal in charge of facilities on campus.
