Q&A with Mr. Pumphrey, assistant principal

By Jacob R.

This Q&A is all about what Mr. Pumphry does in school and thinks about school. He is the vice principal of Airport High School, and he has many responsibilities. Here is the interview.

Jacob: Hello Mr. Pumphry. How does it feel to be the assistant principal of Airport High School?

Mr. Pumphrey: It's great this is an opportunity that I've had since 2017 and I am thrilled to lead and serve Airport.

Jacob: Why did you decide to become the vice principal of Airport?

Mr. Pumphrey: I felt like I could offer my leadership skills to airport. I'm in charge of facilities discipline. I feel like I could provide the best services to my school.

Jacob: What school did you go to as a child and how was it?

Mr. Pumphrey: So I went to Lexington schools. My mom was a teacher at Lexington High School. I grew up in the BC Zone. I went to Lexington High School.

Jacob: And what's your opinion on the new SmartPasses?

Mr. Pumphrey: The smart passes I think are a great addition. It helps monitor and track and it takes some weight off of teachers' shoulders by asking students to write a pass and they click on the agreement or the ability not to allow the student to go.

Jacob: And do you like being the assistant principal or would you like to be the principal one day?

Mr. Pumphrey: Yeah I'm always looking to grow and improve and I think one day down the road I would definitely consider that but I've been here for 22 years this is my home and where I want to be, so however Airport can use me.

Jacob: What are your responsibilities for this school?

Mr. Pumphrey: I touched on that a little bit earlier, facilities is a big one discipline. Obviously, when we all share observing teachers and helping teachers learn and grow as well are just some responsibilities I have, transportation is something that falls under my role as well.

Jacob: All right. Well, thank you.
