Prom plan already begun

by Kayla C.

AHS student government is jumping into action to prepare for this year's prom. Although our school year has only recently started and prom will be held in spring, student government is starting to propose ideas to ensure that prom 2024 will be one to remember.

Prom is one of the biggest events that happens during the school year. Many students find it important that prom is thoughtfully prepared and well organized. Student government is getting straight to work putting their best effort forth to make their fellow students proud.

Members of student government have already come to the decision that prom will be held at Stone River’s event venue. This beautiful venue is located in West Columbia and has an abundance of good reviews. When first entering guests are greeted with a foyer that leads to a capacious open floor plan, perfect for dancing and having fun with friends. Also, there is a balcony and plenty of outdoor space that allows you to see beautiful views of the Congaree River as well as the Gervais Street Bridge. This venue has a very modern build while also giving a warm welcoming vibe with its neutral color theme of beige, white, and soft browns. It is estimated to cost around $4,000 to rent for prom night.

It has also been decided that this year's theme is “enchanted forest.” Students can expect many scenic, mossy green, and fairy light decorations. This theme will go flawlessly with the venue as Stone River is known for its gorgeous surrounding nature. “When you choose a venue and theme, the rest of the plans run smoothly,” remarked student body president Bre W.

Although student government is in charge of the plans, students in general also have a big influence over prom decisions. Bre W. shares, “Everything needs to be voted on because it’s not just our prom it’s everyone’s prom.” Student government is encouraging all students to voice their opinions and give feedback on ideas.

Curiosity has arisen in some students about how much it will cost to enter prom. “I want to say tickets will be $30 each and $50 for two and go up as time goes on,” says student government and activities advisor, Mrs. Martinez. Prom can be pricey so those interested in attending should purchase tickets as soon as they go on sale, especially if saving money is a priority.

As many know, it isn’t cheap to conduct a prom. Money is spent on things such as but not limited to venues, decorations, food, music, etc. This year's prom is estimated to cost around $8,000.

Research shows that one of the most effective ways to raise money is through fundraisers. Thanks to student government, AHS has already started raising money by doing things such as selling foods and items at lunch and collaborating with Sonics. These fundraisers will continue all throughout the year so be on the lookout for these opportunities to help pitch in prom money.

There is a lot of excitement among the students for the upcoming prom. Many are feeling gratitude and relief that student government is putting in hard work to make this event a success. Students all throughout the school are anticipating that this prom will be one to remember.

While the planning itself seems stressful, it is not all bad and there is lots of fun to be found within it! Exciting activities involving prom can include choosing an outfit, deciding where to take pictures, and promposals. A cute promposal could include making a poster, a scavenger hunt, or writing a heartfelt letter. At the end of the day, the more effort you put into prom the more fun it is likely to be!
