Pet food prices on rise, impacting families, shelters; AHS students react
by Johnathan U.F.
In recent weeks, families and shelters are being impacted by pet food prices on the rise, according a local news report out of Anderson, SC. This has an impact not only on shelters, but people in general as well. A lot of people have bills to pay that are already enough stress, and with the rise of pet food prices, that just adds another bill to stress about. AHS students with pets may soon be affected.
A lot of families have pets and they need to keep on buying pet food to maintain their pets' health, and with prices rising it’s getting harder to do so. Families want to keep on being able to maintain their pets healthy and happy to live a long life, and the last thing a family would want to do is put their pet down because they can’t afford pet food for them.
At Anderson County PAWS, the shelter does not only help animals, but people as well. This shows that it’s not only animals being affected by pet food rising, but people as well, especially people in shelters. People in shelters are affected by this because they have to have an equal share between the animals and people, and since pet foods are rising, that could not only mean less food for the animals, but for the people as well.
Ishun Y,. student at Airport High School, says, “I always want to keep my dog happy and healthy and fed, but with pet food prices rising I'm going to have to cut down on some spending.”
“It seems like everything is going up nowadays, and now pet food is going up and that could have an impact on animal shelters and how they’re fed,” said Juan P., a student at Airport High School.
In sum, students at Airport High School feel that the rise of pet food prices does not only affect them, but it also affects others such as animal shelters.
