October is here; students excited for upcoming events

By Jaylin T.

Since it is now October, AHS has released a series of events for this month and students are excited! There will be a spirit week for the week of 10/28-11/1, and AHS will host trick or treat lane on Monday, 10/28. We are all excited for the upcoming events and the details that are included.

Events like spirit week are an important way that Airport lets students show their support and get pumped for the Halloween season. Not only will there be a spirit week during that time, but there will be no school 10/11/24, or Monday 10/13/24--a sort of fall break--so hopefully you enjoyed that time off..

Halloween Spirit week will include the following: Monday 10/28- class colors (9th-orange, 10th-green,11th-purple, and 12th-black) Tuesday 10/29- Barbie vs Ken, Wednesday 10/30-Halloween pajamas, Thursday 10/31- wear your best/appropriate costume (no masks), and Friday 11/1- “day of the dead” attire (no masks).

On Monday 10/28 Mrs Martinez will be hosting trick or treat lane in the cafeteria and in the hallways from 6:00-8:00pm. This is the perfect opportunity to put your costume on and enjoy a night of trick or treating right here at airport high school.

Isabella G., a freshman at airport high school, says “I can't wait until the spirit week! I love Halloween and I love dressing up for different events” this shows how exciting it can be just to have an event like spirit week that lets students go out of their comfort zones and dress up as different things.

Heridania L., another freshman at AHS, says “even though it's only my first year Airport, I'm excited to see what they have planned for us to do for Fall because I don't wanna do boring stuff like we did at my school last year. I'm also excited to miss a lot of school since we're out so much this month¨ This student is telling us how they look forward to the upcoming events and how they look forward to the days we have the opportunity to stay home from school.

Lastly, freshman Kayley P. at Airport says that “even though I'm not a big fan of Halloween, I think it's still cool that we can dress up and have fun activities like this because we didn't really do stuff like this at my middle school” this really just shows how much of a privilege something like this can be and how we shouldnt take it for granted because there's many schools that do not participate in these activities

A lot of people are excited for this event and are already planning what to wear for spirit week and trying to figure out Halloween costumes, but there are people who aren't fans of Halloween and have a harder time with these events and that's okay, not everyone has to enjoy Halloween or Fall but as long as everyone has fun with these events thats all that matters. Just remember dressing up for spirit week is optional and not required.

Fall  festivities at schools provide students with a first hand experience of different views, music, food, and other things. Fall activities can also provide students with community service with food preparation, setting up decorations, and cleaning up. Fall activities have a positive impact on students because not  only is it a chance for students to communicate and have fun with their friends, but  it can also be educational and  can provide students with responsibilities they may need.
