Obituary for Simon Evans, character from classic novel recently read in Mrs. Atkins's Eng. 2H class

by Olivia D.

On August 30, 1953, it had been determined that  Simon Evans was taken from this world at the age of 12. Simon was born on February 13, 1941. After eighteen months of suffering from multiple injuries on a deserted island, he died with his closest friends in his choir.

Simon was a student in one of England's top private boarding schools, and was a crucial member of the school's Choir. He was also known for his faithful nature, and being a prioritized member of the St. Mary’s Church.

Whenever one thinks of Simon, the first thing that comes to mind would be grace. One of the most fond memories of Simon was how the young boys on the island longed for food, and how he did his best to provide for the poor children with no thought of himself.

He was selfless in every moment, and everything he did had a beautiful chime. He never thought of himself, even with his health issues, he still prioritized others. Whether that be those who are older or younger.

His kindness will forever be remembered, and be his most noticeable trait.

Simon is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Meridith Evans. With no known living relatives or close family, Simon will be  succeeded by his friends in his school choir that survived the plane crash and island, Jack Merridew, Sam and Eric Splice, Maurice Chrutch, Roger Finley, and his friend that was also stranded on the island, Ralph Smith.

Even with naval officers searching for Simon and two other children missing on the island, his remains were never located.

In hopes of preparing a proper memorial and remembrance for Simon and the lost boys, St. Mary’s Church held  a celebration at 6:30 pm September 5, 1953. All those who were close to Simon and the boys are open to coming to the celebration.

If one would like to share their condolences or donations, they may send their messages to St. Mary’s Churches mailbox, and to the missing boy's caregivers.
