Obituary for Glenda Daughtry, mother of current AHS freshman

by Shamirah G.

Glenda Ann Daughtry left this world on Jul 30, 2023 On a Sunday morning, she died peacefully in her home with her two sons. This person is important to me, an Airport High School students, because she is the mother of me, Shamirah Garvin, a 9th grader.

Glenda was born on May 15, 1977, in Georgia, SC . She worked all her life up until she had to stop due to health issues. She lived in Estill with her two sons, she had a total of six kids, three in Columbia and the others in Georgia. Glenda was educated in the public schools of Hampton District #2 and was a proud graduating member of the Estill High School, class of 1995. Glenda was determined to further her education, so she enrolled into Denmark Technical College In Denmark, South Carolina. After her mother became a member of Ebenezer Holy Church, she attended church with her mother and many of her siblings. Glenda worked as a housekeeper supervisor in the hospitality industry for many years.

There are so many words that can be used to describe Glenda, but it is important to remember that she was meek, humble, kind-hearted, and loving to everyone. She was a giving person, and you didn't have to worry about others knowing about it. Her children and grandchildren made her world. In her leisure time, she enjoyed spending endless amounts of time with her grandchildren. She shared many laughs and good times with many of her family members and friends. She also enjoyed watching movies, spending quality time alone, and cooking for others.

Glenda  was preceded in death by sister, Charlen Daughtry; Grandparents, Carrie Shiggs Gadson and Rebecca daughtry; niece , Lameika Warren; aunts, Agnes Miller, Laura Blake, Inez (Charles) Pelote, and Rose Gadson; and uncles , James Daughtry and Archie Gadson.

Glenda leaves to cherish memories of her beautiful life: her children, Quinesha Cohen, Taleah Singleton, Malik Green (Yawna) Greene, Mandrell Garvin, Dondrell Garvin, and Shamirah Garvin; Grandchildren, Ava Greene, Messiah Greene, Jaxon Garrett, Madison Allen, and Jordan Grrett; Mother, Birdie Mae (Clifford) Sanders; Father, Glenn Daughtry; Siblings, Melissa Fields, Peaches Daughtry, Nadine Moton, Brittany Gadson,, Steve Gadson, Tashanae Smith, Quincey Connely, and Quinton Connely

To see what other people think of Glenda, I talked to some of her friends Here’s some of the things they said.

“Gee was my motivation, she was everything to me we would talk every day and she would tell me get my stuff together for my kids and be a better me because people wanted to see me down,” said one friend.

Another said, “My friend was everything I ever needed, she was real, she was blunt and her kids were just like her.”

Another friends had this to say: “Glenda was all about her kids, you couldn't tell her anything about her oldest three because in her mind her kids were perfect”

The funeral was held on August 5, 2023 at 3:00 at Ebenezer Holy Church, located at 2078 Lena Furman Expressway, Estill, South Carolina 29918. The preciding minister was Bishop John F. Bowers, Pastor, Officiant,& Eulogist.
