New gas station being built
by Delaina H.
A few months ago the Lizards Thicket at the corner of Boston Avenue and Airport Blvd. was razed with a new gas station that is now being built in its place.
With so many gas stations around, adding another one is a big deal and somewhat controversial. With this new gas station being around, other gas stations might be viewed as a competitor or needless addition to the area.
The most interesting part was when they were knocking it down and it was a surprise to see because everyone was wondering what was going to be built and it came to be a gas station. Before the gas station though, one would have found a Subway, nail salon, and a Lizard Thicket. The last to go out of business was the Subway. Subway was a place for students to go when there were games or after school activities. A place to eat and sit. The gas station won't even compare to the subway that was there, especially due to there not being any seating.
Most gas stations are often built next to many other gas stations. The reason being is due to wanting to get a target audience and to also minimize distance between the traveling distance. The main reason for gas stations being built next to each other is for the competition between each gas station. If one gas station has better pumps, parking spaces, and gas prices and is neat and organized inside, then it is bound to get more customers and more money into the owners pockets.
Two interviees on this topic yielded interesting answers that were alike in some ways and different in others. One question asked was,“Do you think it was relevant to put another gas station there? Why or why not”. One interveiee Ja’tyha, a junior said, “ I mean yeah, I guess. For there to be more gas pumps”. Another interviewee Demetris, a sophomore said, “ I feel it was unnecessary to put that there and they could have put something better”.
Ja’tyha, someone who rarely knows about the new gas station says, “I feel they should of had, like a Starbucks or something like that.” Indeed, a coffee shop where students could gather off campus after school would be great.
Demetris, the sophomore who is more invested in the gas station, has said, “In the morning, traffic is pretty subtle, from time to time. In the evenings it's much more aggressive, especially after school.” so perhaps the gas station may bring superfluous additional traffic.
Both interviewees have very contrasting and similar answers. Each one had their own opinion on not just the new gas station being built but ones around it as well. It's very obvious that the students are happy and ready for this gas station to be done.
