South Carolina, also known as the Palmetto State, has many beaches, mountains, fun cities, and amazing nature. Whether you like relaxing on the beach, hiking in the woods, or exploring new places, there's something here for everyone. Many people at Airport high school are hard workers and deserve a break, even if they are only just teenagers. Therefore, this article contains locations across the state that everyone should visit at least once and that most teenagers are able to access. Here are the top 7 best places to visit in South Carolina, based on my personal experience of having been to these places myself.
7. Huntington Beach State Park
Huntington Beach State Park is in Murrells Inlet, right on the coast of South Carolina. It is a great place to visit if you like the outdoors. You can go swimming, hiking, biking, kayaking, and camping here. It is also a great place for bird watching because there are over 300 different kinds of birds that live in the park. One of my favorite things to do here is walk along the marsh boardwalk early in the morning because it is very beautiful.
6. Lake Hartwell
Lake Hartwell is located in the Upstate region of South Carolina, bordering Georgia. It’s man-made and is one of the largest recreation lakes in the Southeastern. Many people like going there to fish, boat, swim, and hanging out by the water. There are also trails for hiking and spots to camp if you want to stay overnight. AHS student Abigail Gartman said “Out of the seven locations I would have to say Lake Hartwell, it honestly is so beautiful and great for fishing, hiking and more”. Take this as advice to visit the lake.
5. Congaree National Park
Congaree National Park is in central South Carolina, about 30 minutes from Columbia. It’s full of some of the tallest trees in the U.S. You can walk on a long boardwalk through the forest or take a canoe or kayak out on the swampy waters. Congaree National Park is also a great place to go if you love nature and enjoy being outdoors.
4. Greenville
Greenville is one of the many popular cities in South Carolina. It’s easy to walk around and has lots of nice shops, restaurants, and parks. One of the best places to visit is Falls Park on the Reedy. There is also a museum called Greenville County Museum of Art. Greenville also has festivals and events during the year, so there is always something for you to do there. My favorite thing to do there is get ice cream from Spill the Beans and eat it while sitting near the waterfall.
3. Hilton Head Island
Hilton Head Island is part of the Lowcountry region in South Carolina. It is an Atlantic beach town that’s great for relaxing. The beaches are clean and not too crowded. You can ride bikes, play golf, go kayaking, or just relax on the sand. There are many nice shops and restaurants to try. There are also museums that you can visit at Hilton Head Island.
2. Myrtle Beach
Myrtle Beach is the most popular beach in South Carolina. It has wide beaches, many nice hotels to stay at, water sports, an aquarium, restaurants, and shops. There’s also a place called Broadway at the Beach where you can eat, shop, and watch shows. Myrtle Beach is the perfect place to stay if you love the beach. Kailyn S., a freshman, said “Myrtle Beach is my favorite place to go because there are a lot of different activities to do and many of my family members live there”.
1. Charleston
Charleston is a beautiful and historic city. There are many historical monuments you can visit including forts like Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie, historic plantations such as Middleton Place and Boone Hall, and architectural landmarks like Rainbow Row, the Nathaniel Russell House, and St. Michael's Church. Charleston is also one of my favorites because of the beach and the places you can go to ride in horse-drawn carriages. If you love history, Charleston is a great place for you.
Now that you have read my article there is only one thing left to do. Pick one of these places and go visit to see why South Carolina is such an amazing state to explore!
