Jobs for high school students

As we get older, people are urging us to get a job. Holding down a job can teach teens the value of money and help us be more responsible. Finding a job can be difficult as a teenager, but here are some ideas to help you get started.
Babysitter
Babysitting is an easy way to make some money and can be fun. You can play games with the kids, make crafts, and play outside. Babysitting is a good way to improve your time management skills, improve your patience, and increase your creativity. By being trustworthy, you can provide parents with a peace of mind that can let them relax and have a nice day/night out.
Dog walker
If you like dogs and live in a neighborhood, you can post an ad or a flyer for dog walking in your neighborhood. You can charge by the hour or number of dogs. It is a great way to spend some time outside and is a good way to stay active.
Grocery store
Being a cashier, bagging groceries, stocking shelves is a great part time job. Publix and Food Lion are good places to apply, especially Publix since they hire at 14. Working in a store can help with communication skills and help you stay in a routine.
Tutor
If you are looking for an easy job and do well in school, a tutor can be an amazing first job. Being a tutor can help you understand the topic even better and makes you feel good knowing you helped another student.
Fast food
McDonalds, Burger King, Bojangles, and Wendy’s are close to here and could be hiring. Working in the fast food industry is a pretty good first job, it can teach you how to work quickly, understand money, and is pretty straight forward. It could be enjoyable having the daily interactions that working in fast food gives you.
Landscaping/Yard work
If you enjoy being outside, you could always help your neighbors with their yard work. Cutting grass, planting flowers, and touching up flower beds can be super helpful for people who can’t or don’t have time.
Car wash
Working at a car wash can be a pretty laid back job. It can be fun and exciting seeing different people and cars. There are so many opportunities to get to know your coworkers and customers. Take 5’s are everywhere around here and can be a good place to look for a part-time job. By working at a car wash, you're not sitting at a desk and will have a lot of time to spend outside.
Retail
Working in retail is also a good job. It helps with people skills and numerical skills, has flexible hours, and trains you to work under pressure. You are exposed to new people and challenges. It teaches you skills that can help you move ahead in your career. Places near Airport like Walmart and Hobby Lobby are good options. In lexington there is TJ Maxx, Target, and Ross, which are all good options to apply for.
Places near Airport like Carolina Wings, Waffle House, Food Lion, Chic Fil A, Dunkin, Taco Bell, and Zestos are good places to apply.
Most jobs might require you to apply in person, or you could always look on the company’s website.
From Bureau of Labor Statistics, it states that “In October 2023, the proportion of the population that was employed (the employment–population ratio), was 51.7 percent for people 16 to 24 years of age. The employment–population ratio has been as high as 59.8 percent (in October 2000) and as low as 45.0 percent (in October 2009) for this age group.”
