Homelessness around the US should be prevented
by Donterron G.
Homelessness happens all over the world and gets overlooked by many, rates go up every year and time runs out so what can we as a society do to change that?
The United States has one of the highest rates of homelessness in the world. You see many individuals out in the streets in conditions that can be deadly at times as well as weather conditions. It's not everyday that lives are able to be saved but some that are lucky enough to make it and have an opportunity to be housed in a homeless shelter. Many shelters have a shortage of space for homeless people to stay which is another set back. It goes unnoticed and it’s time that something is done about it.
Homelessness is someone who lacks a place of housing. Most individuals that become homeless have an income below 30%, some are even just homeless because of substances they may be taking, poor mental health, or due to having family issues. About 20-25% of the homeless population in the United States suffers from mental health issues. It’s the highest rated reason that a person may be homeless, this makes it harder for a person to think for themselves and be aware of their poverty, many can do nothing about it. 582,000 Americans experience homelessness each year as rates go up, Nigeria has the highest number of homeless people, Los Angeles also has the nation's largest homeless population.
Homelessness first started in the 1870’s. When it was first used in the United States in the 1870s, the term “homelessness” was meant to describe itinerant “tramps” traversing the country in search of work. Homelessness impacts the availability of healthcare resources, crime and safety and the workforce. Being homeless makes it easier for you to be sick and contract certain diseases, due to lack of basic hygiene and mental care. As a result it causes public health problems within the community. It includes things such as HIV/AIDS, physical disorders etc. It makes a difference in our community more than we think.
Homelessness is a human tragedy. Our own society is seen in tents, sleeping under bridges, eating out of trash cans, and losing their lives. Children and adults are affected by homelessness. Some children who experience homelessness may have family violence, addiction and lack of healthcare non profit organizations should be held to uplift those. It's a tragedy that anybody goes through homelessness we as a whole should uplift them and do everything we can to help them.
With everything being said we all know that homelessness affects our economy in different ways. No matter the situation or how things happened, everybody deserves a safe, clean, and stable place to live. Millions of people in the world are capable of helping one another, giving out a helping hand costs nothing.
The peoples opinions were taken and these were the statements made, one person stated “Homeless people got themselves into their situations and should take accountability and its no ones job to help them” Another person's statement was made and she stated “ I love homeless and that she wants to help them as much as she can”.
