High school fights don't fix anything

Picture this: Two girls throwing fists and pulling hair in the middle of the hallway, people crowding around, phones out, yelling, screaming, teachers running, pulling them apart, all while you were just walking to Spanish before a big test.

This is normalized. Fights occur in high school all of the time and students are just used to it, used to this unnecessary violence caused mostly by petty drama. High school is still school. Everyone is here to get an education. To fight in school instead of learn makes drama a priority on top of instruction. Does no one see a problem with this?

It baffles me that anyone would argue the point that these fights let students get their anger out because they’re already mad they have to be in school. Going to school and getting an education is a right that is given to YOU. Why would anyone be mad at such an opportunity?

I would say a lot of what is to blame is how these children were raised and who they grew up around. If a child grows up in a violent environment for a lot of their life, most likely they will be violent themselves. These kids were taught that violence was ok, so no doubt they think that it is ok to fight in school.

Gang violence as well can be a cause of fights in school. So many kids these days are seen throwing up gang signs or affiliating themselves with gangs. After some research, you have to be initiated into these gangs through an act of violence inflicted on someone else. Because of these people being in school, they may be more inclined to use violence against something that they don’t like, only because that’s what they are told to do in that type of group.

Wherever you grew up and whoever you are affiliated with, there needs to be ways to openly help these students and stop violence in schools. Whether it’s more counseling, better monitoring, or anything else that could possibly stop something bad from happening, anything will help. While it may be near impossible to stop, these people need someone to assist them to do right. You could be that person.
