Former President Trump visits Zesto’s

By Jesse P.

Former President Donald Trump visits Zesto’s in West Columbia on January 23, 2023. He was in the Midlands to try the famous Zesto’s that is always talked about in South Carolina, and to promote his 2024 bid for presidency. Two AHS students were on staff at the time of his visit.

Zesto’s is a famous restaurant located in West Columbia, SC, it was founded in 1949 by L.A.M Phelan, and is loved by many across the Midlands and is recognized by its big chocolate dipped cone in the sky. But, one night that cone lured in former President, Donald J. Trump.

Trump’s visit brought surprise to the customers and workers that night as the experience shocked them all. AHS students and employees, Coby L. and Destaney B. were working that night and met Trump first hand.

When interviewed, Destaney B. states, “I was so shocked meeting him, I had no idea how to react” also stating that “he was a very polite guy, he took pictures and spoke to workers and customers.”

Coby L. confirms that his presence caused traffic issues for the restaurant and had to close early due to roadblocks. But before he left, Trump ordered 10 white snacks and 10 dipped cones for him and his team.

Destaney states, “Between news reporters, customers, and his guards it was very chaotic and he didn't get to walk around in the back much.”

Coby confirms that once his visit went public and reached the news Zesto’s sales increased with customers asking “what was he like” and other questions involving the former president’s visit.
