Fellowship of Christian Athletes meets every Wednesday
by Belle O.
This school year, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes meets on Wednesdays. The meetings take place in the Airport Auditorium at 8 AM. The FCA welcomes not only athletes but also students. If a student has the CATE center in the morning, they are unfortunately unable to attend.
This information is important for students who believe in Christianity. The club presents an opportunity for students to grow their faith, as usually the meetings consist of local pastors who come and preach a sermon to student athletes and staff.
Attendees will receive some kind of snack, normally a doughnut. This way, as they listen, they can have some breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and attendees will be prepared for the school day.
The FCA meetings take place before the bell rings in the mornings so class time won’t be interrupted. Students will be released with enough time to make it to their next class.
Mrs. Parker, history teacher and softball coach, was asked why she helps with the FCA program. Her response was “I really enjoy helping out because there’s a great group of student leaders that make it all worthwhile.”
Airport’s computer lab manager, Mr. Cokley, responded, “A normal Wednesday morning at FCA is exciting, fun, full of joy and spirituality,” when asked what a normal morning is like during the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Rayne-Marie M., a junior here at Airport High who attends Trinity Baptist Church and is an active member in her church was asked about some of the things she learns during the sermons She explained, “We learn about how God chose us when we were first created and how there's no full fulfillment in this world that comes from anything worldly and all fulfillment comes from Him. We also learn how to be kind to one another and show kindness no matter who the person is, we all may be uniquely made but at the end of the day, we’re all created by the same person. Spread positivity, spread love.”
Attendees have responded positively overall to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Most churches have a Wednesday night service and now students can have two sermons in one day. Friends and churchmates can come together in their school and learn something they might have not known before.
To get students and parents involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, an Instagram account has been created. Pictures and current news can be found @ahs_fca23.
