Dr. R.'s AP Lang class tries cheese from Italy
by Nie'Chelle T. & Zayvion W.
On August 28 ,2024 Dr.R brought in cheese from Italy for her class to try. Every half day, since classes are shorter, she will choose a different country whose cheese to explore.
This activity is unique. Not many teachers would think about using cheese to teach ELA skills. However, Dr. R. used the opportunity to develop descriptive writing skills.
This news is interesting because the activity occurred in AP Language , an advanced ELA class, which makes one wonder what cheese has to do with AP language. According to Dr. R., the class can dry something so she wanted to break the monotony with a fun activity in addition to teaching writing skills through the lesson.
Italy was chosen because DR. R. is going there soon. This is important because it explains specifically why Italian cheeses were chosen.
A student from Dr. R’s class named Janiyah H. said she doesn't like the cheese. It was nasty. In the interview, she also goes on and says she would like to try the cheese again but from a different country. She understood the purpose and value of the task but just did not like the actual flavor of the cheese.
Another student in the class, a boy, had a different answer. He says he like the cheese and he would like to try it again
Generally speaking, some people think it is dumb to make lessons about cheese, but other people think that it's smart to learn about cheese.
A very interesting fact is a very interesting fact from Food and Wine , the reason why you can eat blue cheese with all that mold is because blue cheese is actually lab made. Also a giant cheese wheel was given to Queen Victoria for a wedding gift. She must have really loved cheese." Another very interesting fact is that some cheese like swiss cheese and mozzarella cheese help with tooth decay. It collects saliva which gets rid of the sugar.
If you want to learn more about Italian cheese, try visiting a cheese store like the Gourmet Shoppe, located downtown.
