Charity drive gets ready to kick-off at AHS
by Kimberly S.
Charity Drive 2023 starts in less than one week and the student council is busy preparing. This is the 29th year that Airport has done a charity drive for Camp Kemo.
Camp Kemo is a summer camp for terminally ill kids and their siblings to get away. Airport does many events to raise money like a food fest and a Mr.Eagle Pageant.
Students have been anticipating this weeklong event for months. This event always brings out school spirit, especially since there are many things for students to do.
Akira J., a sophomore at Airport, said, “I'm excited to see the outcome of this year's event. I enjoyed last year.”
When asked about her thoughts, Karmen R. said, “l think that charity drive really helps others. The money goes to a good cause.”
Students aren't the only ones that get to participate. There are activities for teachers to do like a teacher pageant and tape a teacher. Danie Z., a sophomore said, “ I think that it's going really well and it's going to be a fun week, we just have to see if the student council was able to pull it off.”
There are posters hung up around the school promoting events and their prices. There are also big posters on the 500 hall promoting spirit days and what colors to wear that day.
Before the age of 20, 1 in 285 children will have cancer. Leukemia accounts for 28% of all diagnosed childhood cancers in children under the age of 15.
