At Airport High School, students are scared to ask for help; here’s how

by Emma E.

Pressure can affect students’ lives a lot more than they know, one simple mistake can make you labled as a bad student or a troubled teenager. People like parents, teachers, and administrators put alot of pressure onto their students and they are to scared to ask for help because they feel as if they would be a burden.

Some students get involved into the wrong group and they do not know how to get out of that group. Some students have trouble at home and need help, some have other problems that might be less to deal with but is just as important. Teenagers feel like their feelings or invalid or that they do not care as much as other peoples problems.

Just because you feel this way does not mean it is true, you and your feelings are just as important as other peoples. Do not put your feelings last just because you think they do not matter, especially if you are being harmed.

Step 1: Find someone you are comfortable to talk to. If you feel comfortable around someone, youll know who it is. Even if it is a friend, teacher, or parent. Youll be able to share what you need to share to them without feeling judged or like you are disappointing them.

Step 2: Even if you think it would get the person introuble tell the safe adult. A safe adult is someone you trust, and if the information is something that you know will get you in a situation, tell them because in the end you’ll feel better.

Step 3: Make sure you have a safty plan. A safe plan is something that you make if you feel like someone is hurting you, your hurting yourself or if you think is an unsafe situation.

Step 4: It is completely okay if you are not comfortable with talking about everything, just share the important parts. As long as you are not comfortable with sharing that piece of information you do not have to, but if it is something that needs to be shared do not be scared to share it.

Step 5: If it is bad they will have to report it to the police, SRO, and or school. The school will deal with it, even if you think they will not care about it, They just want to make sure you are safe.

Step 6: Do not tell anyone else because people have a tendency to tell others. People in high school love to start drama and spread rumors, so do not tell someone that you do not trust.

You are loved, and you are important to somebody. Please remember that before you make any mistakes, alot of people care about you and would not like to see you in harms way. So please get help if something in your life is bothering you.
