Airport students react to Alex Murdaugh "guilty" verdict
by Katie C.
On March 2, Alex Murdaugh was found guilty of murdering his wife, Maggie, and his son, Paul, at the Colleton County Probate Court. Students have been buzzing about the news since it was released.
These murders occurred in 2021 but the trial didn’t occur until 2023 and became very popular. After these murders, people began to connect Murdaugh to many other crimes and suspicious activities.
Not only was he found guilty of two counts of first degree murder, he was also found guilty of two counts of possession of a weapon during a crime.
A Snapchat video that was found proved that Murdaugh was at the scene just minutes before the murders occurred. This video also proved Murdaughs alibi as false. After being found guilty, he was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole.
Hannah B., an Airport student, was interviewed about Murdaugh being found guilty. She said, “I think Alex Murdaugh deserved what he got. I believe he was guilty, but even if he was innocent, he was still involved with crimes and covering up crimes for his son years before.”
Avery I., another Airport student, was also interviewed. She noted, “I think Alex Murdaugh is guilty. I feel like his motive might have been to benefit himself. I believe he was a selfish man that wanted more profit. I believe that killing Paul was an accident and the real target was his wife. Even if he wasn’t guilty, he should still serve time for the multiple accounts of him stealing money.“
Lexi B., an Airport student also, was last to be interviewed. She said, “I’m glad Alex Murdaugh got what he deserved. I’m also glad that his wife and son got justice.”
Students were extremely glad to see Murdaugh being found guilty and sentenced to life. Students also agree that even if he did not commit these murders, he deserves what he got because of the other crimes he has committed and what he has put other families through over the years.
Alex Murdaugh must stay at the Kirkland correctional facility in South Carolina until he can move to his permanent prison. He will be moved to another one of the seven maximum security prisons in South Carolina.
