Airport hosts homecoming dance

by Preston C.

Airport highschool wrapped up homecoming week fall 2024 with a homecoming dance in the old gym that took place last Saturday evening from 7:30 to 10:00 and was put together by the Airport’s student government, led by Mrs.Martinez.

Surprisingly, Airport has not always had a homecoming dance, so it's unique merely to have one to begin with.

One interesting detail was the amount of people not actively participating in dancing. In fact, eyewitnesses stated it appeared that more people hung out in the commons area instead.

Secondly, an interesting part is the legality of some of the song choices. According to a new South Carolina state law, it is in fact illegal to make available content to students that “describes sexual conduct,” so it was interesting to hear the DJ play music containing references, direct and/or indirect, to sexual activities.

On the whole, most students agree it was a good time either way.

Demitrius J.  a senior at Airport High School says, “I went home feeling like I had fun.”

Joseph C. was heard stating that “it was a great event.”

Dominic said, “I had fun”.

Julien said, “It was a great experience i had a lot of fun and i honestly can't wait to do it again if i'm being honest.”

It's a fairly collective opinion that students had fun and they'd go again; however, others think it was too much money and drama and that they'd rather stay away from these events.

Statistical information about the topic of homecoming dances abounds. For example an article posted by YouGov roughly 68% of American schools have dance events other than a  prom. 44% of US citizens have attended homecoming. The first homecoming dance ever held was in 1988.

For any more information on or about the homecoming dance or just any inquiries about it please contact Mrs,Martinez head of student government at Airport High School.
