Airport hosts Brookland-Cayce in rivalry football game; Airport scores zero points
Airport High School hosted Brookland Cayce High School’s football team on Thursday night, September 23, at 7pm. Airport and BC have a long standing tradition of rivalry, making this game one of the most popular of the season. As expected, the game was extremely packed on the home side. BC took the victory with a score of 0-35.
Airport and Brookland Cayce have a long standing tradition in playing each other in an annual rivalry football game. According to PalmettoPreps, this tradition dates back to 1966, going on more than 50 years. This is usually the most popular game among the students, both schools having a “Rivalry Week” with designated dress up days.
Any would be surprised to learn that Thursday night, Airport High School lost to Brookland Cayce with a score of 0-35. Airport never scored. Airport’s defense could not hold BC back, leading to five touchdowns for BC. Even though BC stayed in the lead the entire game, Airports student section and stands never got quiet or stopped supporting their boys.
At the beginning of the week Ayden T., an Airport football player, stated that he was “not confident at all in winning the game.”
“I hate BC a little extra this week even though I’ve never even really met their boys,” Ayden T. states, which really shows the embedded tradition of rivalry.
Ayden T. also mentioned that “BC students talk a lot of trash online.”
On the other hand, some students do not care about this week or the game. On social media, many students have posted that they think their fellow students are taking it too far and need to be more mature, that it is only a football game.
After the game, some Airport students stole the BC flag in the name of revenge. Of course, it was returned.
