Airport gains not-so-new Assistant Principal
by Savannah C.
On July 1, 2023 former algebra teacher Mr. Bundrick began his new role as assistant principal at Airport High School for the 2023-2024 school year.
Although this change is extremely new, many students feel at ease and comfortable with having such a familiar and personable teacher being in a higher position.
Mr. Bundrick revealed that the hardest decision he has to make as an Assistant Principal is sending students to the hearing officer. Part of being an Assistant Principal involves following the rules of the discipline policy.
In order for any educator to move up into a higher position, specifically an Assistant Principal, the main requirement is a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership.
When interviewed about his new role, Mr. Bundrick was asked if he could go back to teaching algebra classes would he choose that over his new role. He said, “I love what I’m doing now, I’ve tried for years to get to this spot; so I am happy to finally be in this spot.”
It is obvious to those in the school how hard of a worker Mr. Bundrick has been throughout his career.
An important characteristic of being Assistant Principal is keeping good relationships with students and coworkers. When asked how he handles this Mr. Bundrick said, “One of my main goals is just letting everyone know I'm still the same person as before so you can come talk to me about anything.”
This gives reassurance to those who have a more personal connection to Mr. Bundrick, and feel at ease with having a safe place to share what's going on in their personal lives.
Katie C., an Airport student, was interviewed about Mr. Bendrick's new position and how she thinks he will help make improvements for the students and the school. She said, “I think he will be a voice for the students, and understand students a little bit more because students feel free to talk to him.”
Students feel this is a great opportunity for Mr. Bundrick because he has been a great teacher to those who have had him. Many students feel he is easy to talk to, and that their voices will be heard by him. Mr. Bundrick has helped impact many students in his time at Airport.
In most American schools, Assistant Principals are known to manage students' discipline, meet with parents, and improve the school. The government industry is the highest paying for assistant principals.
