5 Jhene Aiko songs that are important to me

By Che'Niyah S.

Music is  very important to many teenagers, whether that was 100 years ago or just yesterday here at AHS.  Many Airport students listen and use music to help them focus, to stay calm, and for relaxation. Lots of people have a favorite artist or someone who they just really admire and enjoy listening to. I am no exception, and one of my favorite artists right now is Jhene Aiko.

What I like most about Jhene Aiko is how she uses her growing platform to support mental health awareness and healing through the arts, and much of her music centers around these themes.  Like me, many AHS students love or like to listen to Jhene Akio, but this article isn’t about them; it’s about me.  That said, here are five  songs that mean alot to me by Jhene Akio.

  1. “While We’re Young"

While we're young means a lot to me because this song is describing that  when you're kind of naïve and first falling in love with someone and super optimistic about everything”. I like this song because even though you're young you could always meet the love of your life. This song als describes that even though your lover has forgotten you, you should never give up on them and always find your way back to them.

  1. “What a Life”

What a life is important to me because it focuses on her life and what she has been going through. This song believes that through many hardships and thoughts of karma, she has been trying to make it through those obstacles. I love this song because I could agree with it because of the obstacles that I have been through.

  1. “Bed Peace”

I love this song because it is all about slowing things down and not worrying about anything at that moment. This is important because I would like to take things slow and be more comfortable with my significant other. Ever since I was little I have always sung this song with mom everyday in the bathroom. So this song is basically a childhood song.

  1. “Sativa”

Sativa is an important song because, like “Bed Peace,” it's a childhood song that my mom and aunt would have on blast every Saturday.  Also,  I would sing along with them. I also love this song because even when I'm in a bad mood I play this song and it helps me relax and calm down because of its tempo.

  1. “Stranger”

I am obsessed with this song because it explains how men are similar and are the same. It also shows her self respect to not to believe anything or any man. This is so important to me because it teaches me how to not to believe any man or boy because they are all the same in different ways.

In addition to my favorites and recommendations, asking others isn't a bad idea. Let's see what others have to say.

Missy H, an AHS student, says that she also loves the song stay ready because it's a very good song and because it's very relatable to her and her life. She also says it helps her study and to help her focus on her work when she's in school or home.

“I love the song Bed Peace because it's a really relaxing song and I can jam this song out loud when I'm alone or with friends. The song is important to me because it is very relatable and very chill,” Faith B., another AHS student had this to say about Jhene Aiko.

As has been established, Jhene Aiko is one of my most favorite artists right now. If you want to listen to more Jhene Akio, all of her music is on Apple music, Spotify, Amazon music, and other streaming services.
