A 22 year old man was arrested by Mount Pleasant Police after responding to a call at Mt. Pleasant elementary school where an intruder was reported. The intruder was Telvin Bolger, and was charged with one count of disturbing schools, as well as being placed on trespass notice from all Charleston County School District property within the town of Mount Pleasant.

Bolger jumped over a fence to get onto the school property, according to a staff member. Police met with a staff member who said a 12 to 14 year old boy that shouldn’t be on school property was on school grounds. The students in the after school program were under lockdown due to the intruder. Camera footage from inside the school showed Bolger enter through an unsecured door. The footage showed Bolger enter the boys bathroom, then walking down the hall, where he then proceeded to exit the building.

The most interesting part about this is that Bolger entered Mt. Pleasant elementary school, walked around, and left the building. It’s not clear what Bolgers intentions were, besides walking into the boys bathroom and walking down the kindergarten hall. According to the jail records a judge set his bond at $100,000 for the charge. Bolger was being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.

Police while patrolling the area were making sure the students and building were secure. Prior to Bolger trespassing into Mt. pleasant elementary school, he also had an incident at Whitesides elementary, according to an incident report.

Ishun Y., a student at Airport high school, says, “I would make sure all school doors are locked and secure at all times so an intruder or stranger can’t have access to the school.”

“I would have more resource officers check outside and inside of schools various times throughout the days to ensure all the kids are safe.” said Juan P., a junior at Airport high school.

“Overall I would add more security to schools to prevent strangers from entering, as well to keep the students and everyone safe at school,” Ishun Y., a sophomore at Airport high school, states in reaction.

In sum, school safety remains a major concern at AHS and other schools in the state.
