Day in the life of a high school basketball player

Being an athlete at Airport High School is much different than other high schools. Unlike many other high schools we have to work ten times harder just to be decent because we don’t really have any super star player. This means we have to work together ten times more than regular time just to make it to the playoffs.

Now individual wise, here are some things I do throughout my day to make sure I'm bringing as much as I can to the table.

So basically my morning starts out with me doing my daily routine of one hundred sit ups, one hundred push ups, and ten laps around my neighborhood. This is normally on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. After that light work out I do some ball handling drills. Then I go inside and get ready for school and make me a healthy breakfast. I get to school and do what I got to do because my coach always tells me that i’m a student athlete and the student comes before athlete. That means that school comes before basketball but for me personally is not true but most of us athletes just go along with it. Let’s fast forward to lunch. It’s essential for athletes to have a good lunch, especially if you have practice. You never want to perform poorly at practice because you were hungry, plus if we don’t eat we get tired more easily. Now it is after school and while everyone is headed home to spend time with their friends and family, you head the opposite direction. Me and my teammates are headed to the weight room to get bigger, faster, and stronger. After that we do some ball work and drills before we finish practice off by scrimaging five on five full court. After practice if you really want to be great at what you do you go to another gym and put in some more work behind the scenes. I don’t usually get home till about 10 o’clock at night.

I know it sounds hard to be one of the elites, but hey, I guess it’s not for everyone.
