Orchestra prepares for fall concert

Airport High School Orchestra is having a concert in the auditorium at 7:00pm to celebrate Halloween. Rehearsals are currently underway.

Orchestra is an underrated activity here at AHS despite large number of student participants. Students in the orchestra would like to see a bigger crowd at their concerts to feel more important to the school.

The orchestra is playing Waltz of The Wicked, Assemble The Minions, Perseus, and Lullaby to The Moon. As the Orchestra Director, Collin Richardson, says, “I am most excited to hear Purseus preformed by the Chamber class because of its strategic scales and its many melodies.”

The orchestra is preparing for the concert by “working with each class to make sure all the tempos lineup, the notes are in place, and the musicality is even,” Mr. Richardson says. He explains that he doesn’t get nervous but worries more about always wanting to be the best.

Richardson goes on to speak about how he started out by playing the violin and then switched over to viola and then back to the violin in his mid high school career at White Knoll High School. “I continued to switch back and forth was because i am very indecisive,” said Richardson. When he continued his career and majored in music at the University of South Carolina, he started to learn more instruments including the cello and bass. “I personally think the cello sounds the best because of its rich tones,” continues Richardson.

Currently Richardson is playing a violin concerto, Summer by Vivaldi. “I play violin concertos all the time but I don't know if I can get all the notes.” Richardson enjoys playing concertos and sonatas in his free time when he is not conducting.
