Top AHS offensive lineman tears ACL during second game of senior season

AHS offensive lineman, Jim G., has torn his ACL.

Jim G. is a senior at Airport High School. He is a star player for the schools football team but all of that changed during the Airport vs. BC game. Jim had surgery Monday, September 16th, 2019. His procedure took over two hours to fix his knee and it will take approximately 12 months to heal.

After speaking with Jim, he seemed quite upset about it. At one point he said, “I didn’t know what to say or do, I was just in disbelief.”

Jim was homebound for over a week and could not attend classes at the high school.

If Jim’s knee heals and follows through with twelve month process properly, he hopes to continue his playing career in college. “I should be able to heal in time to play college football as long as I do what im supposed to do and help my leg recover with my trainors,” Jim continues.

The average rate of ACL tears in football games is estimated at 6%, but athletes are 20 times more likely to suffer this injury during training. That said, Jim's chances were of getting an ACL tear was low but not

impossible.
