Teachers cause too much stress for students

More and more, Airport students continue to complain about homework, especially given their myriad responsibilities outside of school. This year is no different.

Specifically, two Airport explain their experience about the stress they get from school and teachers. They also give some advice on how to cope and prevent stress on other students.

Both students would agree that some teachers put too much pressure on students. Therefore it is not all teachers that do it. Grades, homework, and preparing for college does still put stress on a great deal of students.

The two students that were interviewed said that they did not let stress from other classes get in the way of any other work that is needed to be done.

Trista, a sophomore at Airport High School, was asked the following question : What would you do as a teacher to prevent putting stress on your students ? “I wouldn't make my students feel rushed,” she replied.

Ashtyn, another sophomore at Airport High School was asked this question : What helps you to calm down or cope with stress ? Ashtyn said, “Listening to music."

The question “How do you feel about teachers not accepting late work? ” was asked to Trista. She replied with “I think it is dumb. I did the work that needed to be done. I should still get some credit. ”

Other questions helped determine that the two students, Ashtyn and Trista, do not get stressed about school very often but do understand that others stress a lot over it. They also both disagree on some things that teachers do and would want those things to change.

According to one article found on NYU.edu, nearly half of all students (49%) reported feeling a great deal of stress on a daily basis. 31% reported feeling somewhat stressed.

When students experience high levels of stress and fail to manage the stress, they become overwhelmed, and detached. This leads to poor performance and productivity both in academics and social life. What results are poor grades, and some will give up on school and drop out.
