Basketball team gives predictions for upcoming season

Despite being a winter sport, the coaches and players on AHS's basketball team are already pscyhing up for the upcoming season.

Although the 2019-2020 basketball team has “the potential to make the first round of the playoffs,“ as stated by Coach Mcdal, the varsity assistant coach, "with hard work and good effort, we can be a “be a top team in the state.” With the use of our excellent facilities and coaching staff our team could be the best it’s been in almost half a decade.

The practice facilities at Airport High School are one of the newest practice facilities in the state. Having two facilities will allow the team to get quality practice between our JV and Varsity teams. The average school only has one gym, so this already puts us at an advantage to schools around us but schools that are ranked nationally on average have about 4 facilities with about 2 or 3 weight lifting gyms.

Our coaching staff states, “We are a very young and inexperienced team so we are going to have to work ten times harder to beat other teams and compete at a high level.“ Regardless of our disadvantages and the adversity the Airport High Basketball team faces, our coaching staff is doing the best they can and are confident that we will pull through as one of the best teams in the state.

The players on the Airport High Basketball team are also very confident they can be the best team in the area if they use the resources given to them. Albert, a member of the Varsity squad stated, “If the players do their job and the coaches do their jobs we going to be straight.“

Overall, the pieces look to be falling in place so far for the team but it’s up to the players and staff to execute their plans.

Be on the lookout for tryouts and game schedules closer to the season.
