Students compete in wacky hands-on-a-car contest for charity
On the Wednesday of Airport High School’s Camp Kemo Charity Drive week, Cayleen H. and Mr. Bailey hosted a hand-on-a car=contest that lasted from the end of lunch to the 3:20 bell at the end of the school day. 24 students competed and 15 won the grand prize, 2 free food passes for any one item at the Friday Food Fest extended lunch.
At the start of the contest, no one was eliminated for hours, and the only rule was you have to have at least one hand on the vehicle, Mr. Baileys White Toyota SUV. False accusations and cheating went on as the lenient judges let the people who let their hand leave the car stay in the contest. The hosts also played loud and annoying music on repeat to deter the contestants.
The first student to have officially be eliminated had been tricked to look at both of her earbuds in each hand, removing it from the car.
By the start of 4th block the rules changed. Now all the competing students had to hold two hands on the vehicle and thus had limited mobility. After another hour, 30 minutes before the contest ended the 23 remaining contestants had to stand on one foot with both hands on the car and couldn’t switch feet. This is where most of the students failed to stay in the competition, 1 by 1, 2 by 2. and before you know it the contest was over and the remaining 15 students won the free passes.
Some students felt underwhelmed. Hunter, a junior, said, “I’m glad I dropped out at the end of it, the prize wasn’t worth it.”
