Mr. Eagle kicks off Charity Drive

With great leaders such as Daniel Bailey and Tommy Barrs, the annual Mr. Eagle contest was able to once again take place and donate 100% of its earnings to Camp Kemo. With 15 contestants from grades 9-12, the contest went off as an amazing fundraising event.

Much like its counterpart Miss Aquila, Mr. Eagle is the male version of a “beauty pageant”. Unlike Miss Aquila who gives its proceeds to the school yearbook, Mr. Eagle gives all of its profits to a place called Camp Kemo, which is a non-profit organization that helps kids with cancer enjoy a week during the summer of just being like every other kid their age and not having to worry about treatments and medication.

“Its a great honor being chosen as the winner of this contest because I know what this cause means to so many people” says Trace, the winner of the Mr. Eagle title, ”There's nothing better than knowing that these students are willing to give up their time to volunteer for this amazing fundraising opportunity to help those that are less fortunate.”

Of course though, the contest wouldn't be possible without the coordinators for the event, Mr. Bailey and Mr. Tommy. “This is a team effort,” says Mr. Tommy. “We have a whole team of volunteers to help out, from the contestants to the judges, everyone has a part in this production.” With people running around adjusting lighting and even a choreographer to create the opening dance, this was nothing short of a worthy production for a great cause.

Anyone and everyone, whether they were lucky enough to attend the show, or if they just saw the aftermath on social media, was happy to know that the fundraiser was a extreme success. The contestants themselves were overjoyed to learn that all their hard work on making their theme wear costumes and learning the opening number had not been for nothing, but had instead benefited a wonderful charity that would help benefit kids just like them that just wanted to be that: a kid.
