Decades Day gets Airport nostalgic
Airport High School is in the midst of their annual charity fundraiser for Camp Kemo, and one event was on Tuesday to dress up in the style of a particular decade. You could see all types of decades from the 60s to the 90s.
The kooky but cool math teacher here at Airport High School, the notorious Mr. Gray, when asked how he felt about participating in Camp Kemo charity drive week said, “It’s awesome! It gives you many opportunities to show your spirit, and the kids have fun seeing how crazy things are.” Mr. Gray was representing the 70s decade, and when asked what he likes about this decade he explains, “Crazy clothing, dude,” in a very seventies like manner. Some would say he was almost dressed like a hippie of some sort. He will not be participating in the decade dance this coming Friday, but regarding his inspiration for this look said, “ I had the clothes in my closet, I know it seems kind of hard to believe, but yes. I do keep this for special occasions," he jokes.
This next interview was a student of Airport High School, very involved in sports and student government and academically outstanding. This exceptional student is none other than Zharia H. She says, “I love it! It's so much fun it gives the school more spirit and it makes the whole experience more fun.” Zharia is also representing the 70s era. Pretty groovy, right? When asked what she likes about this time in history, she says, “I like it because I get to fluff my hair.” She will be participating in the decades dance this coming Friday to show off her moves. When asked the inspirations for her look she simply says, “Google.”
Our next interviewee is a teacher, a first year teacher at that, Mrs. Martinez. She participated in decades in support of camp kemo and here is what she had to say about her charity drive experience, “ I feel great and I love to dress up and I love to keep the school spirit going.” When asked what decade she was representing she explains, “I was heading for the 90s, but then the 80s, so there’s a gap between 80s and 90s.” She was asked what she like about the decade that she is wearing and she answered, “ I was born in that decade…” Mrs.Martinez would have loved to participate in the decades dance Friday, but she did not get to experience it. She says her look was inspired by "the movie Clueless and then the skateboarders with the pants."
Last but not least we have one of airports very own soft ball players, Hannah F. She was asked about her participation in the Charity Drive and she says, “ I love it I feel like it goes to a good cause and it makes me happy to be able to do stuff that can help people.” Hannah is representing the 90s. She explains her love for the 90s by saying, “The music probably the most… The early 90s the most I love the music and the fashion.” She could not participate in the decades dance due to a softball tournament. Her look was inspired by the clothes in her closet. "And it was clean," she jokes.
All in all this day was full of fun and school spirit and the hearts of students and teachers wanting to make a difference in the lives of other people. Enjoy the Camp Kemo charity drive week, until next time!
