Mrs. Owen oversees Aquila pageant for first time
On February 23rd, the annual Miss Aquila Pageant was held at Airport High School. In the past Mrs. Reamer, the yearbook advisor at the time, was in charge of the pageant. Due to her relocation to the innovation center, however, Mrs. Reamer had to kiss the pageant planning goodbye. Thankfully, Mrs. Owen stepped up in a time of need and put on a gorgeous pageant.
What is Miss Aquila one might ask? Miss Aquila is for all high school girls who want to participate. The profits go to the yearbook staff and helps them raise money. Many young girls compete to make friendships, come out of their comfort zones, or just for fun.
Mrs. Owen was a perfect solution for who the new advisor would be because “I have helped plan Miss Aquila in the past and my daughter has competed in pageants,” stated Mrs. Owen. Pageant planning isn’t as easy as it sounds. “I think the managing of the paperwork is the most difficult, because different girls turn in papers at different times,” said Mrs. Owen.
“Another hard thing I had to overcome is running back and forth from the sound booth to the stage because there is no coordination between the two,” said Owen, “[but] besides that I think the pageant went really well.”
“This experience has been so wonderful and I’m so grateful I won Miss Aquila,” stated Haley B, this year's overall pageant winner. “Everything was better than I expected and I can’t wait to crown the next Miss Aquila next year.”
Mrs Owens does plan to coordinate the pageant next year. “I’ve already done the application for the 2020 pageant.”
