Banquet honors bowling team

With the help of an amazing coach, the AHS bowling team had their own banquet at Bogarts on Wednesday, February 13. After a successful season ending in second place, the team had one last get together to celebrate their accomplishment with coaches, family, and friends alike all in attendance.

After a hard and long fought battle between several school in Lexington School District Two, the Airport bowling team was able to finish off the season in 2nd place out of seven total schools. With a new head coach leading the way to success, several of the players say that it was a no-brainer that they finished so high up. “I was approached by Mr. Damm and the previous bowling coach and asked if I wanted to take over as Bowling Coach,” said McBride, the bowling head coach. “I had previous experience bowling in leagues and had knowledge of the sport.” With those fundamental parts, the success of the team was eminent.

Of course, McBride says she can’t take all the credit. “The camaraderie and teamwork on both the boys and girls teams made for a great season,” she said. With such great team spirit and determination, the overall feel of the team is ecstatic.

Both the guys and the girls are happy with their placement but know that next season they will have to try even harder to at least maintain that position because half of the schools bowlers are seniors and will be eligible to return next year. When questioned about the roster for next years season, McBride gave this statement as a form of recruitment: “The Airport Bowling team is not just about bowling. It also provides experience to work on one's skills while having fun at the same time. Also, if you are competitive, this league allows you to play other high schools.”

Someone can really tell that this team means a lot to not just the players, but also the coach. McBride says that she will in fact be returning as head coach next year and can’t wait to see the new batch of talented players that make the team next season.
