AR-15 ban unlikely to prevent school shootings

In the past couple of months there has been a huge issue on gun violence. In 2018 there has been nineteen school shootings where a gun was actually discharged. In 2017 that year was deemed the deadliest year for mass shootings in modern US History. In 2017 there were 345 reported mass shootings. After the most recent shooting, a lot of places in the government want to ban the AR-15. Banning the AR-15 will not help anything.

If you take away the manufacturing of the AR-15 there is no possible way that government can take all of the AR-15’s away from everyone in the United States. Also, if a convicted felon or someone underage wants to get access to a weapon they will find a way to. They will get a friend, neighbors, or family member to get it for them, and act like nothing is going to happen then go shoot up something like a school, church, mall, etc.

I have interviewed two students at Airport High School on what they think about the AR-15 being banned.

Student body president Chris S. said, “I feel like the AR-15 shouldn't be banned, but I think there needs to be be restrictions for buying an AR-15.”

Classmate Elijah M., said, “The AR-15 isn't a military rifle. The AR-15 is a semi-auto firearm which fires one round per trigger pull and fires a small .223 caliber round which is smaller than an average hunting round and functions the same way as any other semi-auto hunting rifle. The only difference is the looks of the weapon. More people are murdered by blunt weapons than rifles. If over 22,000 laws in the U.S. aren't doing nothing, will more help?”

In conclusion, the AR-15 shouldn't be banned. They aren't going to be able to get rid of every single one already out there, they would have to get rid of all modified rifles like AR-15’s, and if a person wants a gun to do a mass shooting they will find a way to get one. This proves why taking the gun away from everyone isn't right and won't help anything.
