MOVIE REVIEW: Black Panther

Black Panther, a 2018 film by Marvel, is one of the first super hero films made by them with mostly African American and women cast. The movie is based around the made-up country in Africa called Wakanda. Chadwick Boseman plays the African prince--king T’Challa, a.k.a. Black Panther. With this movie there is a lot of violence but most of the fighting is done with “old school” weapons like spears and other types of blades.

The movie starts off with a flash back to 1992 when a young T’Chaka goes to Oakland, California to confront a rogue spy of Wakanda. Fast forward to T’Challa’s coronation day; he will have to fight to the death to any challenger. Right after T’Challa takes his throne of king of Wakanda, Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis) takes a vibranium (rare metal found in Wakanda) artifact from the British museum this causes T’Challa to take his royal guard to fight him and get it back.

Jessie C., a senior at Airport said, ”Usually i’m not a fan of superhero movies, but Black Panther was so amazing I watched it twice in the same week.”

Chris S., also a senior in addition to Student Body President, said,”Black Panther was an interesting twist on the superhero movie, obviously with the black actors cast for the roles. The visuals were amazing and the story line consisting of the African culture was well-overdue, and Marvel did not disappoint.”

Larry G, a senior and student government member at Airport, said, ”Black Panther was an amazing movie. I loved the black cast of the movie, but it didn't really glorify our culture. Definitely loved it!"

Personally, I loved Black Panther. It showed great acting by the men and women in the movie, but with this movie I think it will be hard to make more Black Panther. Overall, it was a great movie by Marvel, and I can't wait to see what is next!
