Airport basketball loses out in region play

With tough play on the court, practice Monday through Thursday, your Airport basketball team, played good this season, came up short in region.

Basketball is one of the schools biggest sports, it was shocking that the team lost out and didn't make playoffs. For people who have been around Airport Basketball for years it will be different not seeing the Eagles basketball team in the playoffs. However, the team plans on working harder for the 2019 season to make playoffs again. With players Nygel B., Jalen C., Butch L., and R.J. H. returning the Eagles are expecting a lot next season.

An interesting part of the season was that the Eagle basketball team was ranked number six in the Midlands before region play started. Which was great considering the 7 win season last year. This year we started off the season with a 8 game winning streak. Entering the Christmas tournament the Eagles were 9-1.

Airport basketball was 12-3 going into region play. The minor injuries and moving people around in the starting lineup may have affected the record in region play. We had a very strong healthy team at the beginning of the season and the future was looking bright for the Eagles basketball team. Also with the absence of coach Kinard for a couple of days with an illness shortened practices and no practice may had been an issue with how we performed in region as well.

Calvin F. stated, “We do a lot of running, like suicides to condition.”

Calvin also stated, “Hopefully I’ll get to play in college!”

Also a newer member of the team Travis C. said, “We played well as a team, but just couldn't win them all.”

Everyone was really upset the Eagle basketball team didn't make the playoffs. We had a very good and strong team up until region play. The student section was a very important group at games always cheering as loud as the could along with the Airport cheerleaders. Between the 3 pointers, Crossovers, and Dunks the season we still very exciting.

This is the first some since 2010 that the boys basketball team hasn't make at least first round in the playoffs. Even though they didn't make playoffs Airport still had a very talented and strong team this year. The team will still be loaded with talent in the upcoming seasons and seem to have a very bright future ahead of them.
