Varsity soccer team prepares for hopeful defeat of B-C

The AHS soccer program has been training on their newly updated turf field in aims of defeating B-C. Training since November of 2017 everyday from 3:45 PM to 5:45 PM, the Varsity squads’ refinements are no mere feat.

To AHS students, beating B-C gives them bragging rights over their rival friends and acquaintances. Not only that, but a victory would end a 5 year losing streak for Airport and potentially be the upset of the year. This win would mean a lot to both the student-athletes and the rest of the student body.

Airport’s soccer team has not beaten B-C in over 5 years. The last time Airport has beaten B-C was in the March of 2014 both at B-C and Airport’s stadium. However, the team is looking to end this streak.

History is being rewritten in the soccer program. Sam Masone, the previous Varsity coach, left his legacy in the hands of Young David Robinson. Although he is “young and inexperienced,” said Raul V., he is new and optimistic.

Perhaps this is the milestone the team needs in hopes of making history.

B-C is known for their aggressiveness and passion when it comes to their soccer program. Some may say these are good qualities for a team to have while others disagree. “Arrogant team,” says Raul. Airport is known to have a certain style that completely contradicts B-C’s and so far it has proved that only Airport should change their tactics.

Overall the notion is that this year is THE year to beat B-C. Students have no doubt that the team is more than capable of doing so. With twelve seniors on the roster, “team is filled with great players with club experience,” says Jesus V..

The seniors know what it is going to take and with past memories of tough losses, that is enough motivation to get the job done. Many of the players are anxious to play and can’t wait to bring out their best for the game.

Airport is ranked #1286 nationally and they are ranked #17 in the state, according to Max Preps.
