Students benefiting off old notes; something so simple and effective
Something so simple as not throwing away old notes from previous classes, and keeping them organized by subjects can actually help students. They can be beneficial in future high school classes or even college.
As soon as students finish a class or get out for summer the first thing they do is throw away all the notes and work from the classes they just finished with. No one ever thinks about keeping notes from a class. Instead the only thing they think about is the fact that they are finished with the class.
Something that’s interesting to see is kids haven’t realized that something so simple can really benefit them in their future. Even when they are their in college they can take their old notes with them and use them in related classes. This can definitely help most students considering college classes are a lot more difficult to grasp onto, so students can always look back on old notes to refresh their mind, and also understand a subject much easier.
This is such a simple thing is to do. It isn't hard and it doesn’t cost a penny. Just keep your old notes instead of throwing them away when your done with the class. Organize them by subjects in a binder or portfolio and when you start new classes you will still have a lot of information from the classes you took before which may be related to your new class.
A great example is when you take chemistry. Chemistry and anatomy are similar classes they use a lot of the same definitions and similar charts and tables. Another example could be English classes. In English classes they essentially cover the same material in each class you just go into deeper content.
Also in college when you take refresher courses you’ll have something to already look back on.
Katie W., presently still in high school as a senior, quoted, “ I wish I would of done this because it could have help me all four years of high school.”
Abby D., currently in 7th grade said quoted, “ From now on I’m going to do this, because it’s very smart! I’m surprised I haven’t thought about this before.”
Christian M., a former AHS student stated, “I wish I would of thought of that when I was in high school because that would have helped me tremendously.”
Something most students don’t even think of can benefit them greatly throughout their whole education. This is something that should be introduced to students when they first enter high school. It will help many students learn to keep up with past work, make classes easier, have to take less notes, and have something to give them a general idea of what they have learned in the past and connect it to what their learning presently.
