It starts with kindergarten, and first grade, all the way to fifth grade. Then it's middle school and onto high school. By the time we graduate we have gone to school for at least thirteen years, but it doesn't stop there. Next comes college. The average person will spend seventeen years of their life in school.

As for Airport High School alumni Alec Spooner, he can now check off fourteenth of those seventeen years. He just finished his first year of college at the Florida Institute of Technology, where he is majoring in aerospace engineering. For the seniors at Airport, college is right around the corner.

I recently spoke with Alec and he gave me a few tips for rising college freshmen: don't expect to be reminded about assignments, don't wait till the last minute for anything, college is much different than high school, don't take college for granted, and don't let one action negatively affect your future.

Good luck to our 2017 graduates, especially those matriculating into college this fall.
